Career Perspective (15 ) — It Is OK Having Anxiety About Your Career Journey

Have you thought about how Uni builds the departments with different majors? The answer has a strong link to the Industrial Revolution. Under the factory system, the whole production lines are broken into a piece of parts along the way in order to make products cheaper, faster, and larger volume. Therefore, college followed the paths to build the departments with different majors, allowing graduations could work in the factory right after.

For example, you could strictly work under the Accounting Department of the factory after graduating with a major in Accounting. By the time, they kept brainwashing you doing what they told, thereby you can get an offer and get paid regularly. I reckon it is not hard to see that previous generations view a job as marriage, they would stay at the same company with loyal until retirement. And it works great until Millennials who have hubris to of something bigger changing the status quo.

In the present, those phenomena already made the working-environment dramatically changed. Since the recession adds power on the right hook, or global competition has been aggressive that brings different views to Millennials regarding the purpose of the job and the importance of balance between life and work. So the career journey of Millennials has been an uphill climb. As being a Millennial too, you are not alone. Here are my tips to cope with anxiety. They won’t change you overnight, but they can help you step by step.

A. Analyze the anxieties.

Where are the anxieties from? Take a moment to fish them out. Planing times laying down on the sofa asking yourself what is the reason to cause them? Don’t worry if you go blank, this part takes time.

B. Break the cause.

The causes are spotlighted now. Then we can break into two categories, one is changeable and another is non-changeable. Focus on the changeable reason, and thinking about what can we do to cope with it.

C. Map out a plan.

The last step is to list them down. Once you’ve identified the changeable causes, put a plan together to start making moves.
